The Teaching for Democracy Alliance (TFDA) currently consists of 13 members who believe in providing students with the tools to become civically engaged and informed citizens. The organizations part of the TFDA are working together to equip teachers and administrators to talk about elections & voting in a safe, productive and educational way.

The Alliance is coordinated by CIRCLE, which is part of Tufts University's Tisch College of Civic Life.

Why is this Alliance so important?

Young people are an important part of the electorate and their voices matter. Schools provide the unique opportunity to help students develop civically conscious minds and long-lasting voting habits. We believe action-based civic education empowers students to become active members of their community and encourages students to change the world for the better. Furthermore, civic education opportunities in middle and high school have been proven to increase an individual's likelihood to vote.

Our work ensures that every voice is heard, because democracy works best when everyone is included.
